The Digital Hub of the non-profit organization AfricaBeyond4IR (AB4IR) is hosting a series of webinars to develop facilitation, gaming and program development skills among young people and entrepreneurs in Tshwane.
The Digital Hub, located on the Mabopane Odi campus, is a collaboration between the Small Business Development Agency (Seda) and the Tshwane South Technical and Vocational Education and Training College.
âThe digital hub is set up to empower young people in Mabopane, Hebron, Klipgat, Soshanguve and Garankuwa with a focus on technology, innovation and incubation. Young people will also be introduced to new technologies, will be exhibited to new ways of working and will be able to incubate their ideas to enable them to access the market and commercialize their innovations. To achieve this, the organization has partnered with government, the private sector and academia. ” , said the CEO of AB4IR. Kelebogile Molopyane.
âAlthough Africa is one of the fastest growing technology markets in the world, the participation of entrepreneurs in the gaming and animation technology sector remains considerably low. AB4IR aims to bridge the digital divide to empower communities through technology, innovation and incubation, âshe adds.
The facility will provide services such as an incubation program focused on animation and games, as well as mentoring, networking and collaboration opportunities for entrepreneurs.
Molopyane says the facility should be operational by July.
The webinars are open to anyone with a laptop and an Internet connection, with no age restriction, she says.
âWe are very excited about this project. The new facility will be a clear illustration of Gauteng’s digital transformation, and is a collaborative platform to accelerate, with our partners, the development and state of innovation in the gaming and animation sector. We can’t wait to incubate entrepreneurs, âsays Molopyane.
The hub has already hosted animation and games webinars in May and hosted a three-day webinar in early June. Its mandate in communities is to accelerate technological innovation in games and animation.
